When working on the new version, we tried to take all your feedback into account, which means that we fixed all bugs and errors we could find. Here’s what we’ve done:

- We’ve fixed errors that some users experienced when they tried to upload ZIP archives. Now the archives don’t get corrupted anymore and get uploaded as they should.

- Now you don’t have to uninstall the previous version of the program to update to the current version. Simply update and everything will work as it should.

- We’ve added a send confirmation message, so that there is less chance that you will send a file by accident.

- We’ve fixed all autocomplete issues.

In addition to that, the new version has several interface improvements and works faster than its predecessor.

• DropSend uploads get stuck at 96-99%
• ZIP folders cannot be unpacked
• Large files cannot be uploaded (“send files error” message)
• Dropsend crashes while uploading large files/folders

Via DropSend Direct Preferences

The easiest way to prevent DropSend Direct from loading on system startup is through the program’s settings:

1. Open DropSend Direct and click on File (Windows) or right-click on the small DropSend icon at the top right (Mac)
    
2. Click on Preferences
3. In the new window that appears, go to the General tab and uncheck the Launch at system startup checkbox
   

Via MSCONFIG (Windows)

If you are a Windows user  and like to manage all your startup items from one place, then you can use MSCONFIG to control what programs start when you switch on your computer. Here is how:

1. Click on Start and type msconfig in the Search box
2. When the utility opens, go to the Startup tab and uncheck DropSend Direct’s entry
3. Click Apply, then click OK
4. Reboot your PC

Via System Preferences (Mac)

• Microsoft Outlook 2013 support
• A feature to protect attachments and uploaded files with a password
• New options that allow you to set file expiration and download limits

Now you will be able to set a password for the files you are uploading and configure additional settings, such as expiration and download limits, from the General Settings tab:

Another improvement we’ve been working on is speed because we know that nothing is more frustrating than waiting for hours for your files to upload. Well, we have some good news because now uploading files using the plugin is faster by 20%.

We haven’t uploaded the new version yet because we still have some stuff that needs patching up. But we will upload it soon, so keep an eye out for the new version!

iPad Support

A lot of our users have been asking for iPad support. Now DropSend works on iPad.

Upload Music Files

We’ve added a new button to the Upload screen. This button lets you upload music tracks in a quick and easy way. Just tap on it and then add as many of the music tracks from your music library as you like.

Send Button on the Sent Tab

Our users told us that it would be nice to have a Send button on the Sent tab, so that it would be easy to resend previously sent files. Well, we’ve added a button that does exactly that.

Upload Files from Inbox

When you receive a cool or useful file via DropSend, you may want to keep it. The easiest way to do that is to upload the file to your online storage. Now you can do that from your iPhone or iPad.

Here is how:

1. Go to Inbox and open the attachment you want to upload
2. Download the file(s)
3. Click on the Upload to Storage icon and the file will be uploaded

The feature supports the upload of multiple files. Similarly, you can upload files downloaded from your storage – now there’s an icon for that.

We’ve also made the new version of the app faster and made its interface even easier to navigate.

In the next 10 days DropSend will be undergoing a hardware upgrade. We’ll upgrade ALL our hardware, which will make sure that DropSend is faster and more reliable than ever before. In addition to that, we’ll be opening a new data center in Washington, D.C. to ensure that we meet the needs of the growing number of our users.

So, DropSend will be running on the all-new hardware in 2013 and you’ll be able to see the difference in speed and enhanced reliability.

- We’ve fixed errors that some users experienced when they tried to upload ZIP archives. Now the archives don’t get corrupted anymore and get uploaded as they should.

- Some Vista and Windows 7 users used to complain that updates weren’t working on their system. They either didn’t launch at all or they caused the program to fail to start after an update. This problem has been addressed and now updates work normally on all Windows versions.

- When you browse files, now there aren’t any errors that resulted in displaying created folders incorrectly.

We’ve also fixed login issues, saved passwords issues, autocomplete email issues, pause button errors and other bugs. Overall, the DropSend Direct 4.05 is a lot more stable than the previous version and is a lot more comfortable to use.

1. Share Your Photos

If you are looking for a way to share your photos with your friends and family, DropSend can help. You can either upload your photos as a Zipped folder and send it to anyone you like, or you can simply create a Shared Folder and put your photos there in zipped format. You can then give your friends and family access to the shared folder, so that they can download the photos.

2. Back up Important Files

You can also use DropSend to back up your files online. Every DropSend user gets online storage space, where he or she can back up the files that matter. The amount of online storage space depends on the plan you have.

3. Store and Share Your Projects

If you are a freelancer, DropSend can make your work easier. You can use it to collaborate with your colleagues and send your work to clients without having to worry about email attachment size.

4. Collaborate

DropSend is also ideal for businesses and teams of professionals who need a platform that allows them to collaborate, share projects and have access to various documents. DropSend Business Plan is ideal for that, as it supports multiple users and offers lots of storage space plus unlimited sending.

5. Protect Your Files

If you are running a business, it’s really important to have your company and client data well protected. DropSend has a solution to that without making your files difficult to access. DropSend Business Plan uses 256-AES encryption to protect all your files, which is a government-approved encryption standard. And if you want to be extra careful, you can protect individual files and folders with a password.

How to Use the Shared Folders Feature

Using the new feature is really easy and it’s really useful if you want to share a file or a folder with several people at the same time. To share an item, do the following:

• Upload the item(s) you want to share to you storage space
• Browser to your Storage folder and select the items you want to share
  
• Click on the Share button. A new window will appear
  
• In the new window you can set the download limit, the expiry limit (maximum 14 days) and protect the download with a password
• Click OK to save the changes. The download link will appear
  
• Copy this link and send it to the people you want to share files with
• The shared folder will appear in the Shared Items folder. There you will be able to view how many times it has been downloaded and get the link again and view other info

A while back we wrote a short post announcing that we were working on a new DropSend design. Don’t worry, we didn’t make the website unrecognizable, but rather improved the way DropSend looks. We made it more intuitive, more accessible and even easier to use than before.  We also promised that you’ll get a sneak peek before the new design goes live. So, here you go!

DropSend Account

This is the new look of your DropSend account. As you can see, we’ve changed the menu a bit to make DropSend features more accessible. We’ve also changed the icons to give your account a contemporary look and feel.

Same goes for the Contacts page:

Sent Files

The Sent Files page had quite a lot of improvements. We’ve changed the “Tracking” section to the “Download” section and now there is a download icon instead of a text link. It works just like the link did – click on it to download a file. We’ve also adjusted the layout of the page, so that you can view all the information about your sent files at a glance.

Custom Branding

And last but not least, we’ve improved custom branding options, so that now our business customers can be a lot more creative when custom-branding their DropSend. We’ve made sure that your branding will look sleeker and more professional.
